Grand Imperial Dragon -Concept

The Cobyth (Also known as the Grand Imperial Dragon and the Crested Empire Dragon) is a large reptavian native to planet Ultimare.

Although it is draconic in appearince, it is not a true dragon. It is more closely related to the archaeopteryx. It is winged, but it cannot really fly. It can only glide between trees or on gusts of wind. Despite their large size, they are decent climbers.

This great species once dominated the forests of Ultimare, but overdevelopment of the planet destroyed the cobyth's natural habitat. In modern Ultimare, the only cobyth left in the wild have been pushed into forested craigs, the only areas of terra that cannot be developed. Wild cobyth are in danger of becoming extinct.

There is usually little conflict between Ultimarians and Cobyth, but sometimes a hungry cobyth will wander into Ultimarian cities looking for food. While they are no real threat to sentient beings unless provoked, they are often seen as a nuisance because they hunt small pets and scavenge through garbage.

Native Ultimarians have domesticated this species. But since there is a lack of wide open spaces on Ultimare to raise them, ownership of Cobyth is usually reserved for the military's mounted division.

Cobyth have been exported through trade and they can be seen on ranches and farms throughout the galaxy. A few domestic Cobyth have escaped captivity and have started packs on other worlds.

I'm very happy with the design for this species... but I just realized that from the front view, they look a little bovine. ^^

I'm planning on doing a reference sheet for this species... as well as ref sheets for several of the characters in my next gen story.

Busy busy busy. I'm feeling very inspired to work on this story as well as designing some of the things in it. So there will most likely be a lot of new arts from me in the next few months.

On a side note... their appearance is based on a species that I created in Spore
