Before the exile of humans from their dying homeworld, China had become a world superpower.

Though they had helped work on the terraforming project since the beginning, they had grown unhappy with how it had been run. They broke away from the project and used the terraforming technology to create a separate world for their colonies. While they did bring plants and animals from all over Earth to help set up their new world, they concentrated more on their own cultures and "Biological Treasures".

Since their technology was the same terraforming technology used by the rest of the colonies, theirs fell victim to the same problems that the rest of them faced. They became extinct exactly like those in the other colonies.

A quick doodle taken from my sketchbook that I added a splash of color too because I really needed to get this species out on paper. The Zhaocians are one of the five 'elder' races that formed the Galactic Alliance. While they almost strictly walk the path of spirituality rather then science, they are not necessarily religious creatures like the Ibirians.

Bipedal aliens from the planet, Assari. Zhaocians are among the best melee fighters in the galaxy, but most detest firearms. Because of this, most of the other races see them as being 'impractical' in combat and don't usually use them on the front lines of the battlefield. However, Zhaocians excel at any combat professions that require stealth and surprise rather then brute force. They make decent assassins, spies, and scouts... but they really are best suited to be spiritual leaders, monks, traders, or diplomats.

The Zhaocian Monks are legendary hand-to hand combatants (though they use bladed weapons and staffs as well). Most of the Imperial Suns have had unarmed combat training with these monks at one point or another.

I know you can't see this from the front view of this picture, but they have a distinctive facial profile with a forward slope and low forehead.

From their tree-dwelling relatives they retain opposable digits on their feet and long tails for balance - both of these become slightly smaller with each passing generation as they no longer have a need for them.

Their feral ancestors before that... well, lets just say that their markings and the location mentioned in the above snippet should be a dead giveaway as to what species the Zhaocian evolved from.
